History

Micron began in 1978 and was founded by Ward Parkinson, Joe Parkinson, Dennis Wilson, and Doug Pitman in the basement of a Boise, Idaho dental office. By 1980, we had broken ground on our first fabrication plant, and then just a few years later we introduced the world's smallest 256K DRAM. In 1994, we earned a spot on the Fortune 500 and steadily grew into an industry leader through our technology innovations, key partnerships, and strategic acquisitions around the world. Today, we are a world leader in innovative memory solutions that transform how the world uses information. For over 45 years, our company has been instrumental to the world’s most significant technology advancements, delivering optimal memory and storage systems for a broad range of applications.

   Laura Treider-Pye Legacy Dram Lead Senior Engineer & US AIR FORCE VETERAN: Before joining Micron, I was in the Air Force for 10 years. I spent the first half of that decade as an Avionics Sensors Technician. The second half of my service was spent completing my BS in Physics under the Airman Education and Commissioning Program and then working as a Physicist at the Air Force Research Labs. After leaving the service, I started a master’s in electrical engineering. I was fortunate to be selected by Micron for an internship with the Product Yield Enhancement (PYE) group, and I joined the group full-time after I completed my degree. Throughout my 6 years at Micron, I have been given many opportunities to advance, and I’m now leading a team with a global impact. Micron values the experience and skills I learned in the military, and I would love to see more veterans join our team.
