Primary Function:
The Patient Flow Director is responsible for coordinating patient placement for Kent Hospital. This includes coordination and communication with key personnel and departments such as: Nursing, EVS, transport, and staffing. This position provides clinical guidance on patient placement according to unit and department specific admission criteria and is responsible for optimizing patient throughput within the hospital and the facilitation of timely discharges. This position has direct oversight over the Nursing Supervisor staff and the Float Pool staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:Responsibilities
1. Manages the patient flow throughout the facility to assure timely patient placement.
2. Rounding on the units and assisting to facilitate timely discharges and assess patient flow issues.
3. Provide clinical guidance on patient placement according to unit specific admission criteria.
4. Communication among nursing units regarding admissions, discharges, and transfers.
5. Communication with physicians, nursing, and administration during times of high census.
6. Monitors OR and cardiac catherization schedule to optimize patient flow.
7. Adheres to and monitors staffing patterns, taking into account for unit acuity and activity in collaboration with the Nurse Director of each area.
8. Develops action plans based on key data in accordance with best practice for patient flow.
9. Facilitation of the daily bed meeting at 8:30 Monday through Friday.
10. Daily report out at the management huddle at 10:00am Monday through Friday.
11. Directly oversees the Nursing Supervisor staff, the staffing office, and the Float pool staff. This includes scheduling, performance review, and ensuring staff are current with competencies and job related certifications.
12. Responsible for the management of the Morgue.
13. Develop policies and procedures related to patient flow.

15. Complies with all Kent Hospital policies and procedures.
16. Completes all required training including maintaining competencies.
17. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s or other advanced degree in Nursing/appropriate field preferred and a minimum of five year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State Nursing Licensure and BLS are required. Certification in administration or related specialty is preferred. Ten years of Nursing Experience is preferred. Certification in the specialty area of practice is preferred and expected within one year of hire.
