The Genesis Future Leaders MDS Coordinator in Training (MDS-IT) Program is a hands-on learning experience designed to help you build a career in resident assessment, care planning, and reimbursement. With guidance from an experienced Preceptor and opportunities to learn alongside the interdisciplinary team, you’ll develop the knowledge and confidence to lead the MDS process.

The Future Leaders MDS Coordinator in Training (MDS-IT) plays a critical role in developing the next generation of clinical reimbursement leaders within Genesis skilled nursing facilities. This immersive six-ten month structured development program is designed to build the competencies required to manage the Minimum Data Set (MDS) process, support accurate clinical documentation, optimize reimbursement under PDPM, and contribute to high-quality resident outcomes.

Individuals in the Future Leader MDS-IT role are automatically enrolled in Genesis’ Future Leaders Program, a structured development pathway that includes curriculum-based learning, hands-on facility experience, mentorship with experienced MDS leaders, and completion of a capstone project focused on clinical and reimbursement performance improvement.

The program prepares emerging clinical leaders to serve as MDS Coordinators, supporting the interdisciplinary team in ensuring assessments accurately reflect resident care needs while maintaining compliance with CMS and state regulatory requirements.

1. Licensed nurse (RN or LPN) required.
2. Exposure to or willingness to learn MDS 3.0, RAI process, care area assessments (CAAs), and reimbursement methodologies (PDPM).
3. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to interpret clinical documentation to support accurate coding and compliance.
4. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and effective communication with interdisciplinary team members.
5. Proficiency or ability to learn electronic medical record systems (e.g., PCC) and documentation tools.
6. Must meet all health requirements, including verification of TST (tuberculin skin test) or other state-required screenings in accordance with company policy.
