Construction Engineer

• Position Summary
  • Under general supervision, constructs, renovates, remodels and maintains structural areas of the Medical Center according to blueprints, construction documents, International Building Codes, JACHO and building specifications.
• Position Responsibilities

    Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
    • Reads blueprints and diagrams to determine procedures and specifications of articles to be constructed.
    • Frames walls with metal studs, installs door frames, windows and other related wall components. Installs drywall and wall system when complete.
    • Installs suspended acoustical ceiling rails and tile at predetermined heights.
    • Prepares existing substrate for laying flooring and installing base material.
    • Involved with all phases of building alterations; demolition of existing walls, ceilings and fixtures, adding doors or windows to existing walls and finish carpentry work required at project completion.
    • Determines quantities and orders materials for construction jobs according to plans.
    • Make repairs to walls, ceilings, floors and other surfaces.
    • Hangs and/or repairs wall coverings.
    • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
    • Installs hardware such as doorknobs, door closures and panic devices.
    • Exhibits and promotes a cooperative team spirit.
    • Performs other related work as required.
    • Attends in-service meetings, educational programs, etc. to maintain current understanding of trends and changes relevant to the industry and finance in general.
• Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
  • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
    • Valid Iowa driver's license for the State of Iowa.
  • Organizational Requirements:
    • Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
    • At least three years of experience in building construction, utilizing the principles and techniques of the building trades.
    • Demonstrated literacy in English to read and interpret plans a specifications.
