Position Overview
The Process Engineering Intern works closely with the Process Engineer and plant operations teams to support the monitoring, analysis, and optimization of cement production processes. This position provides hands-on experience in process engineering within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment, with opportunities to analyze production data, participate in process improvement initiatives, troubleshoot operational issues, and support projects focused on efficiency, reliability, product quality, and safety.
What You'll Do
- Assist with monitoring daily production trends and analyzing process performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in the plant's scheduled weekly process routines and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with the Process Engineer and operations teams on process optimization projects focused on increasing efficiency, reducing power consumption and waste, and improving product quality.
- Collect, organize, and analyze data from various stages of the cement manufacturing process, including raw material handling, grinding, kiln operations, and cement milling.
- Perform statistical analysis of production and process data to help identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of process issues to help minimize downtime and improve plant performance.
- Assist with maintaining root cause analysis action plans, dashboards, and follow-up activities.
- Participate in a 5S improvement project within a designated area of the plant, working with team members to improve organization, efficiency, and overall conditions.
- Update and monitor Uptime Go equipment downtime reports and assist with identifying recurring equipment or process trends.
- Participate in weekly updates of the plant's technical and operational training tracking tools.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, maintenance, and other plant personnel to support process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Follow all Company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures, as well as applicable MSHA regulations..

Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Must be entering or currently enrolled in junior or senior year.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 required.
- Previous internship, manufacturing, industrial, or engineering experience is helpful but not required.
Other Qualifications
- Basic understanding of process engineering principles, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Basic knowledge of process control systems and industrial automation.
- Interest in process optimization, continuous improvement, and heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Ability and willingness to work in an active cement plant environment and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Commitment to following all Company safety policies, procedures, and applicable MSHA regulations.
