*About Fisher Construction Group*
Fisher Construction Group is a leading Design-Build General Contractor specializing in complex food processing, cold storage, distribution, manufacturing, and controlled environment facilities throughout North America. Our integrated team of architects, engineers, and construction professionals delivers innovative, practical solutions from concept through completion.
*Position Summary*
We’re looking for an experienced, licensed Structural Engineer (PE) who is comfortable taking ownership of projects and making sound engineering decisions with a high degree of independence. This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys solving complex structural problems, working directly with architects and construction teams, and seeing their designs through from concept to the field.
As part of our in-house structural engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and structural systems while collaborating closely with the people actually building them. We're looking for someone who can step into projects, identify what needs to be done, and independently move the structural design forward.
*Job Duties and Responsibilities *
* Independently lead structural design for projects from concept through construction.
* Review structural calculations and drawings prepared by other engineers and provide technical guidance as needed.
* Design structural systems for industrial, food processing, cold storage, manufacturing, distribution, and commercial facilities.
* Develop structural calculations, drawings, and engineering reports for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
* Apply sound engineering judgment to develop practical, efficient, and constructable structural solutions.
* Coordinate directly with architects, civil and mechanical engineers, project managers, field superintendents, subcontractors, and clients throughout design and construction.
* Manage structural design priorities and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
* Visit active construction sites to evaluate existing conditions, investigate structural issues, and develop practical field solutions.
* Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field modifications.
* Provide timely engineering support during construction to resolve unforeseen conditions and keep projects moving.
* Perform structural assessments of existing buildings for renovations, expansions, equipment installations, and modifications.
* Ensure structural designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers and contribute to the continued development of the structural engineering team.
* Contribute to improvements in engineering standards, quality, constructability, and design efficiency.
*Qualifications*
* Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
* Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
* 8+ years of structural engineering experience, with demonstrated experience leading structural design projects from concept through construction.
* Strong experience designing steel and concrete structures; experience with masonry and wood construction is also desired.
* Experience with industrial, manufacturing, food processing, cold storage, distribution, or similar facilities is highly preferred.
* Strong working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and related structural design standards.
* Strong engineering judgment and ability to develop practical solutions with limited oversight.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced design-build environment.
* Proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
* Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination is preferred.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both design and construction teams.
* Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
*What Makes This Role Different*
At Fisher, structural engineering is integrated directly with architecture and construction. Our engineers don’t simply complete a design and hand it off. We stay involved as projects move into fabrication and construction.
That means working directly with project managers and field teams, seeing how your designs are built, solving real-world construction challenges, and having the opportunity to influence both design and constructability. For an experienced engineer who enjoys taking ownership of their work and wants to be closely connected to the finished project, this role offers a level of project ownership and involvement that is difficult to find in a traditional consulting environment.
