Primary Purpose:
The IT Principal Systems Engineer position serves as a distinguished technical role providing leadership and critical thinking to drive technology solutions by weighing advantages of technology standards, market availability of products, and risks and benefits of technology introduction into Exelon's computing environment. It requires demonstrated leadership to drive strategy, assess cross impact opportunities or risks, and solve intricate problems. This role will work independently, as a technical mentor and as part of a team.
Within the CC&B Revenue Management functional area, this position provides strategic technical leadership for critical customer billing, credit and collections, payment processing, deposits, financial adjustments, revenue assurance, and regulatory compliance capabilities across Exelon's operating companies. The role partners closely with business stakeholders, architects, vendors, and delivery teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with enterprise business objectives.
The IT Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for evaluating and influencing solution architecture, establishing technical standards and best practices, identifying process improvement opportunities, and driving the successful delivery of major initiatives and regulatory programs. The position provides oversight of complex integrations and system dependencies, evaluates the impacts of application and infrastructure changes, and proactively mitigates risks that could affect revenue operations, customer experience, financial integrity, or regulatory compliance.
Additionally, this role serves as a trusted advisor to leadership by providing technical direction, supporting strategic roadmaps, mentoring engineering teams, and fostering a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. The individual is expected to leverage deep expertise in CC&B and Revenue Management processes to ensure technology investments deliver measurable business value while maintaining the stability, performance, and integrity of Exelon's credit and collections, customer, and revenue systems.
Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
Primary Duties:
- Provide technical expertise to IT and business teams to identify technology solutions and strategies to achieve business results. Ensure appropriate implementation of technology within various environments. (25%)
- Provide technological expertise and advice to engineering teams, IT leadership in the development of strategic information technology plans to support business strategies. (20%)
- Create POC's & working prototypes and present recommendations to help decision making as well as ease of adoption to engineering teams (15%)
- Developing enterprise libraries that promote consistency and improves efficiency/ productivity in engineering teams (15%)
- Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with business and IT partners. Communicate status to key stakeholders on a regular basis. (10%)
- Maintain awareness of trends and issues in area of technical expertise, evaluate new technologies or technology opportunities, and provide analysis of their potential impact to advantage the business. (10%)
- Provide input to IT managers on the performance of IT personnel to assist in performance evaluations, career development, and recognition. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Computer Networking 8 -10 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 12-15 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrates both technical expertise and business acumen within the CC&B Revenue Management functional area
- Demonstrated technical understanding across the IT portfolio of platforms and products
- Maintained knowledge of how systems integrate
- Demonstrated ability to draw inference from multiple variables and independently offer solutions to highly complex technical problems
- Develops vision and strategy
- Expert in articulating sensitive and mission-critical information to a wide variety of target audiences (written and verbal, inclusive of executive leaders)
- Strong relationship management and team mentorship skills
- Experience being visible to and interfacing with company leaders. Ability to identify and provide BU & IT data on IT trends and issues
- Demonstrated ability to lead a project in alignment with project management principles & framework

- Provide cost benefit analysis and organize multi-department effort to realize benefits
- Troubleshooting & Monitoring: Fully understands capabilities of standard monitoring tools. Can make informed decisions on monitoring settings such as sample size, level of criticality, and some self-healing opportunities. Recognizes where further opportunities exist and can research and make recommendations when required.
- Cloud Technologies: Demonstrated experience with laaS/PaaS
- Security Basics: Ability to evaluate a solution against current security requirements and future industry trends
- Scripting & Automation: Demonstrated leadership qualities to make technical decisions, troubleshoot high level technical issues, fiscal responsibility, mentorship, and the mindset to plan for future growth and upgrades
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience supporting, designing, and developing Oracle Utilities Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) solutions in large-scale utility environments.
- Deep expertise in Oracle Utilities Application Framework (OUAF), CC&B configuration, algorithms, plug-ins, batch processing, integrations, and performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of utility business processes, including Credit & Collections, Billing, Payments, Customer Service, and Regulatory Compliance.
- Proven experience serving as a technical lead, architect, or principal engineer for enterprise-scale initiatives.
- Ability to define technical strategy, architecture standards, and long-term platform roadmaps.
- Experience leading solution design reviews and ensuring adherence to development and architecture standards.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills with a demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex production issues.
- Strong SQL and database skills, including performance optimization, data analysis, and large-volume transaction processing.
- Experience designing scalable, maintainable, and upgrade-safe solutions while minimizing unnecessary customization.
- Ability to assess technical risks, identify cross-system impacts, and proactively address performance and stability concerns.
- Experience mentoring engineers, developing technical talent, and driving engineering best practices.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Knowledge of cloud, hybrid-cloud, and modern application architecture patterns.
- Experience supporting mission-critical customer-facing systems in highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction, champion innovation, and lead organizational change.
- Certifications such as NERC-CIP, FERG, AZ900 Experience building highly scalable applications
