What You Will Do
Pratt & Whitney’s Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering module is seeking a highly motivated Principal Structures Engineer. In this role, you will play a key part in analyzing and optimizing innovative development and production solutions for the world’s most advanced aircraft engines. You will collaborate across design, project, process, product definition, maintenance, overhaul, and repair engineering disciplines.
Perform structural analysis of both Externals and Mechanical systems hardware through both preliminary & detailed design, validation, certification, and support of manufacturing and operational service.
Collaborate as the structures subject-matter expert on multi-discipline integrated product teams providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
Validation test coverage (both engine and rig) consisting of live monitoring of instrumentation response relative to applicable limits, post processing test data, and evaluation of test data relative to program requirements.
Brings expert knowledge to in-service field investigations while coaches, reviews, and delegates work to lower-level professionals.
Use Finite Element Analysis and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods while influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Document analysis results and present conclusions to leaders and customers.
English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.
Travel is up to 10%
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
8 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced degree with 5 years of experience.
Structural engineering background with proficiency in Finite Element Analysis, ANSYS, Workbench, and classical analytical methods.
Qualifications We Prefer
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Experience with application of mechanical statics, strength of materials, and machine design theories.
Experience with Aerospace structures and/or components.
Experience with ANSYS Workbench or equivalent software.
Working knowledge of NX or equivalent modeling software.
Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Experience with Teamcenter and writing engineering reports.
